GEM-K Ministries was officially present on www.Facebook.com as of Dec. 1st, 2007. We hope that GEM-Ks who have not yet signed up for Facebook accounts would be allowed to do so though we understand if this is not what some families want to do. We believe that, as in all social interactions (physical and virtual), teens should think through how they plan to interact with others. GEM-K Ministries has put together two valuable resources. First, A Guide to Facebook (pdf) which was created to help explain why GEM-K Ministries settled on Facebook as opposed to many of the other options available. The article also suggests some of the potential pit-falls of Facebook so that we can be aware of them. Second, Facebook Privacy Settings Tutorial (pdf) walks you thorough, step by step the privacy settings of Facebook so that you can be sure to know who you're sharing your personal data with.
